During my time in Istanbul I had the pleasure of dining at the famous Kosebasi, which is renonwed for its traditional Ottoman Cuisine. Kosebasi is a global chain representing traditional Turkish food with branches worldwide. Whilst I was in Istanbul, I took advantage of the opportunity to have an authentic experience at Kosebasi in Taksim. Each of Kosebasi restaurants are adecorated with minimal interior with elements of traditional ottoman influences. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm with extremely accommodating staff who could not do enough for you. It came as no surprise that the Turkish food was outstanding, each dish was extremely appetizing and flavoursome. I was just left with one question, when is Kosebasi coming to London? Have no fear, Kosebasi have answered us foodies prayers and is due to open in London at the end of the year!
What I had
To start, in the traditional way the waiter brought a tray of a selection of starters to choose from. Spoilt for choice and eager for us to try their signature dishes, it’s fair to say we had an extreme food overload! My must try dishes from the starters were, Suzme Yogurt – Traditional Yoghurt, Kisir – Bulghur salad with parsley onion, mint & spices and Soslu Patlican– Tender Cubes of Eggplants with Roasted Tomato Puree. This was then followed on by my all time favourite Lahmacun a thin turkish style pizza with ground seasoned meat. For mains we shared from the grill the Kosebasi Kebap their signature lamb kebab with Tavuk Sis tender chicken cubes. Not forgetting the side of fries and rice, Kosebasi sure don’t leave you hungry!
